Our 2023/24 mentor programme comes to an end this month. The programme was started back in 2022 to give something back to the industry. With a career spanning 35 years, Damian felt that giving some time to support up and coming professionals seemed like an obvious way to help.

One star of the most recent intake was Marcia Davids. Having completed an LLB at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and an LLM at the University of Pretoria, Marcia joined as mentee as she was pursuing her PhD.

Well-versed in many fields of law, her specialisms included sports, aviation, building and construction. She has worked with the Department of Environmental Affairs and the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development in South Africa.

Her interest in the green agenda, particularly in construction, fits well alongside her interest in the environmental sector. During her time in the programme, Marcia contributed to a number of articles on the subject, including this one.

Thanks

On ending her programme, Marcia said:

“I am writing to express my deep appreciation for all of your mentorship over these past years. You have really empowered me and without you, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to speak confidently on construction matters.”

Messages like these make the programme all the more worthwhile, particularly as she added: “I’ve never had someone so invested in my future before. I promise to pay it forward and find someone who I can mentor one day.”

We wish Marcia all the best of luck in her future career and thank her for her kind words. We are sure when the time comes for her to pay it forward, she will do a wonderful job indeed.
